From a very early stage we decided the game would be played on a board made up of hexagonal tiles. Many tabletop games utilise boards made up from distinct spaces, where as others use specific measurements e.g. this miniature can move 6 inches. Our decision to use a board made up of tiles was driven by the rules we created and the notion that this would work well in VR.
Once the decsion to use tiles had been made we then moved our focus to how the board should look. This had to
work in a number of ways.
Firstly it should be obvious which parts of the board are accessable, and therefore how to deploy and move your miniatures.
Next it should be possible to create a beautiful looking game board. Something that looks like a talented model maker spent
many hours producing, and that fits with the concept and lore of the game.
And then of course the board needs to support fun and exicting gameplay.
Above you can see one of the boards we have poduced and been using in our testing. The game will launch with many
different boards, offering diverse and exciting gameplay.
In the board above you can see the focus on sight-lines. Large pieces of cover in the form of shipping containers block the sight-lines
across the baord whilst opportunity to scale the containers and stand miniatures upon them provide overwatch options to the player.
