Our team has been hard at work refining the turn‑based combat system for our upcoming VR tabletop skirmish game. The goal is to make every action feel tactile, weighty, and strategically meaningful — just like moving miniatures on a physical board.
Our team love all kinds of tabletop strategy games, so we sought to find the mechanics in those games that we felt made the experience so enjoyable.
We knew our game was going to have miniatures. Pieces we could move. We knew the game would take place on a board
representing the battlefield. From there we decided dice were a must have mechanism for introducing the element of chance,
and cards would be used to provide the numerous deverse actions that miniatures could perform.
This combined with the fairly common approach of assigning attributes to miniatures in the form of numeric statistics
provided us with everything we needed to flesh out our game.
